From 1999 to 2008, as a senior technical staff, engineering manager, and/or founding team member, Dr. Ma subsequently worked at Motorola Research Labs (Schaumburg, IL), Broadcom Corporation (Irvine, CA), Attansic Technology (Shanghai, China), and Newport Media Inc (Lake Forest, CA). As one of the key system architects, he participated and/or led the system design of four successful physical layer broadband communication baseband chips: DOCSIS cable modem headend receiver, Gigabit Ethernet PHY, European DVB-T/H, and Japanese ISDB-T/Tsb mobile TV chips. The ISDB-T/Tsb mobile TV chip is the first CMOS SoC chip with RF tuner, mixed signal, and digital baseband receiver fully integrated for the Japanese digital mobile multi-media broadcasting system.
Dr. Ma also held short term positions at the Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands, and Lucent Bell Labs, Allentown, PA.
Dr. Ma joined School of Microelectronics of Shanghai Jiaotong University as a Professor in April 2008.
Research Area:
Dr. Ma’s research interests are in the area of physical layer design of broadband wireless communication systems. He has published 18 papers in leading IEEE journals and conferences, and has 21 US patents pending.
